Germany cannot achieve the necessary energy transition alone. International cooperation and knowledge exchange is essential and sparks innovation. Therefore, for the third time, a side-event at the congress targets an international audience and will take place in English. This year`s international dialogue also follows up on the findings of the Renewable Cities' Global Learning Forum in Vancouver, May 2015 and marks an important milestone in building a global 100% RE cities and regions network, a project of the Global 100% RE campaign.

Kassel International Dialogue on 100% Renewable Energy

10-11 November 2015

Organisers: Federal Environment Agency and deENet

Side-Event at the Congress "100% Renewable Energy Regions" in Kassel

A growing number of local governments from cities and regions around the world have embarked on the pathway to 100% renewable and sustainable energy by engaging citizens and increasing the efficiency of their energy systems. On this journey, local policy makers seek each other’s know-how and support.

The Kassel International Dialogue provides this platform by showcasing multifaceted good practices for 100% RE in interactive policy dialogue. This dialogue introduces practical tools to help local governments from around the world exchange their ideas. It sheds light on opportunities and challenges faced by cities that are transitioning to energy systems entirely powered by RE. Furthermore, this dialogue aims to build a shared understanding of the exemplary policy elements of a robust and comprehensive policy framework for achieving 100% RE.

To establish cross-border partnerships and networks between local governments and to catalyze new ideas and opportunities, the dialogue builds on participatory processes, such as a plenary discussion led by a panel of experts, round table discussions, and a World Café. As a special highlight, the program includes a site visit to "energy efficient city" Wolfhagen, known internationally for building its 100% RE strategy around strong citizen participation and added local value.

Facilitators:

Pia Buschmann (deENet e.V.),
Anna Leidreiter (WFC and campaign coordinator of Global 100% RE),
Betsy Agar (Renewable Cities).

Participants of the Kassel International Dialogue will be welcome to visit the exhibition (guided tours in English can be booked ahead), the networking dinner, and other sessions hosted by the annual German 100% Renewable Energy Regions Congress taking place in parallel.

About

Congress '100% Renewable Energy Regions', 10-11 November 2015

The energy transition in one of Germany’s main challenges in future years. Many communities and regions have already embarked on the energy transition and implemented ambitious climate protection concepts in cooperation with citizens and other regional energy initiatives. The Congress “100% Renewable-Energy-Regions” helps to propel this regional movement by providing a platform for actors to exchange know-how and to motivate each other to actively pursue the set goals.

The congress-series “100%RE-Regions” is unique in the realm of municipal conferences. Attracting more than 700 participants annually – representatives from municipalities, economy, and science – the congress represents the biggest event of its kind on the topic of “renewable energies and energy efficiency in regions and municipalities”.
